A treatise on magic, the Lemegeton brings together the writings of Solomon.

Introduction

Written in the 17th century by an unknown author, the *Lemegeton*—whose full title is *Lemegeton Clavicula Salomonis*, meaning *The Little Key of Solomon*—compiles and updates several texts. It should be noted that the origin of the word *Lemegeton* remains unknown to this day.

The texts it contains are said to have come from King Solomon, who, according to the stories, received divine gifts granting him knowledge of magic, sorcery, and the occult sciences. He is also said to have possessed what is known as the Ring of Solomon, which allowed him to subdue and command demons.

Description

The Lemegeton is divided into five parts.

The Ars Goetia

It describes the 72 demons and the ritual for summoning them. This section gave rise to Goetia, a practice of summoning demons. 

The Ars Theurgia Goetia

It lists 31 aerial spirits (leaders, emperors, princes, demonic kings) who are not entirely evil and can sometimes be benevolent; their role is to reveal everything that is hidden, whether it be an object or a secret. Solomon is said to have imprisoned them within one of the four elements after summoning them. The text provides all the details on how to protect oneself from them, as well as the names of all the dukes in their service.

The Ars Paulina

In the first chapter, he describes the angels, their nature, their seals, the dukes, and how to invoke them. The text also links them to astrology by explaining their connections to the various planets.

In the second chapter, he describes the angels of the signs of the zodiac, listing their names, elements, and seals.

Ars Almadel

It describes the twenty benevolent spirits of the Zodiac and the twelve princes who rule over them. It also reveals the method for summoning them using the Almadel and four candles. The Almadel is a wax tablet that must be made with protective symbols.

Ars Notoria

Solomon is said to have received this text from an angel. It is a collection of prayers and magical formulas, some of which are rooted in Kabbalah. It not only provides the words to be spoken, but also explains their meaning and how to say them. In this way, it offers insight into the divine and how to communicate with it.
